Letup Letup

the name ” letup letup ”  literally means pops up.  this could be due to the fruit itself that pops up . Scientifically it is known as “ Passiflora foetida“.    Please don’t be a smart aleck and go over to any village folks in Perak and smugly asking them ” Pakcik / Makcik, can you show me where I could get Passiflora foetida ? ” .  If they’re patient enough they will ask you to describe what you’re looking for.

Unassumingly you will see these grown among thick bushes or roadsides, open area with lots of sunshine.

Why would this letup-letup fruit be important ?

According to my kampung relative ( lets call him VE as in Village Elder) , this plant can help to reduce high blood pressure.  Take the whole plant ( with the fruit, leaves and roots) , clean it up properly from dirt and gravel, dry it up and boil it with water.  After the  plant has settle in simmering with the water, drink the concoction after it turns cold.   repeat daily till your blood pressure has show significant improvement

I have to admit I didn’t get the enough details, how much water? how many plants do I need to put in, the whole sack?

I will get more details from my relative  when my next visit to his place.

Ok – so you don’t have any high blood pressure and still stumble upon this plant with its fruit.

As the name suggests it nature, pop it up and you will see there’s an actually a berry inside.  Is it safe to eat?  or shall I feed the wild birds with these?

the answers is yes.  if not , this author of yours wouldn’t be here in writing this article. It tastes sweet and it can be very tempting to look and pop more of it and keep munching those berries.

So the next time you’re in nearby forest, look up for any of these berries, get a handful and enjoy your walk while munching these berries.
